Most forced-air furnaces on the market today have AFUE efficiency ratings between 76% to 80%. Energy Star Products start at 90% minimum efficiency and continue up to 97%. To qualify as an Energy Star product the equipment must meet the following minimal requirements and also carry the new Energy Star logo:

Natural Gas & Propane Furnaces: The unit must be at least 90% AFUE efficient. All units are direct vent which eliminates the use of existing chimneys which rob homes of critical heat.

Oil Furnaces: Minimum 84% AFUE Efficient. Not direct vent, but use existing chimneys.
